Marri’s family urges SC to take notice of his arrest

25.10.2007

QUETTA, Oct 24: The family members of Khair Jan Marri, whose whereabouts are not known, have appealed to the Supreme Court to take notice of his arrest by personnel of an intelligence agency on March 18.

The family has warned that their children would stage a protest demonstration in their school uniforms and burn their books as a mark of protest on October 28.

Speaking at a news conference at the Quetta Press Club on Wednesday, the sister of the missing man alleged that her brother was tortured in custody and the family members were not allowed to meet him.

She said that Khair Jan was the sole bread-earner of the family and his arrest had caused numerous problems for them. She demanded of human rights organisations, political and social parties and associations to cooperate with the family members by raising a voice against injustices.

She said that if the security forces did not release her brother soon, a protest rally would be held outside the press club on October 28. Later on protests would be held in front of the governor house, the chief minister’s secretariat and the office of the provincial police officer.
