Security man killed in blast

10.02.2008

QUETTA, Feb 9: A security man was killed and four others were injured on Saturday in a bomb blast in the Nushki area, some 160 kilometres west of here.

According to sources, the remote-controlled bomb was planted under a small bridge near the Frontier Corps’ mess that exploded when a vehicle carrying some personnel was passing through it. The vehicle was destroyed in the blast.

After the incident, security officials rushed to the site and shifted the injured to a local hospital. Two of the injured men, stated to be in serious condition, were later shifted to the CMH, Quetta, by helicopter.

The deceased was identified as driver Mohammad Zubair.

Meanwhile, the Awaran’s district election office was damaged in a rocket attack on Saturday.

According to official sources, two rockets were fired from nearby mountains. One rocket landed in the office and damaged a portion of the premises, said the sources, adding that the other rocket hit a wall near a PTCL office.

Two explosions took place near the office of the District Coordination Officer, Awaran, sources said. A wall of the office was damaged in the explosions, they added.
