QUETTA: Baloch insurgents blew up a gas pipeline in the outskirts of Quetta on Monday, disrupting gas supply to several localities for many hours. Later in the day, the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the explosion and for an unconfirmed attack on army personnel. A six-inch gas pipeline was blown up in the Hazar Gangi area of Quetta district, which suspended gas supply to the Hazar Gangti and Dasht areas, according to Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) officials. The damaged pipeline was repaired within two hours, and routine gas supply restored to the affected areas, the officials added. The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for blowing up the gas pipeline, and said, in a separate attack it had killed five Pakistan Army personnel in Barkhan. A spokesman of the banned outfit said the BLA had hit and completely destroyed an army vehicle with a remote control bomb. The BLA’s claim could not be confirmed from military sources. staff report
