FC, police start joint patrolling in Quetta

08.07.2008

QUETTA, July 7: The Frontier Corps and police jointly started patrolling Quetta and its suburbs on Monday in the wake of sudden increase in incidents of sectarian killings in Balochistan.

The decision to seek the help of the Frontier Corps to maintain law and order in the province was taken at a meeting of the coalition government, presided over by Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisini.

According to informed sources, besides patrolling, the FC personnel would be deployed at checkpoints to be set up at sensitive places across the city and in other parts of the province in a couple of days.

These checkpoints would be jointly manned by the Frontier Corps and police.

Security has been put on high alert in the provincial capital in the wake of Sunday’s suicide attack in Islamabad and a series of bomb blasts in Karachi on Monday.

Hundreds of policemen have been guarding various shopping centres and important buildings in the city.

The meeting, attended by heads of the parliamentary parties, reviewed the overall law and order situation.

The meeting expressed deep concern over these killings and condemned these acts of terror.

It expressed the resolve to protect the life and property of the people and appealed to everyone to maintain vigilance to thwart terrorist activities.
