Balochistan sends missing persons’ list to army, Interior Ministry

21.11.2008

LAHORE: The provincial government has sent a list of 849 missing persons to the Interior Ministry and the army, a private TV channel quoted Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani as saying. According to the channel, Raisani said the government was working to recover all the missing persons from the province, adding that he had also asked the Home Department to furnish a list of people detained under the MPO. He said it was his duty to get all the political prisoners in the province released “no matter who takes the credit”. He said there was no military operation going on in the province and the Frontier Corps had been directed to take action only if they were attacked. Hundreds of political activists have been arrested in Balochistan since 2004. Adviser on Interior Rehman Malik had said in October that authorities would work out details about the missing persons, and that the government had already freed 200 people, and the rest would also be released soon. daily times monitor
