Quetta shut down against FC posts

QUETTA: Complete shutter-down strike observed in Makran division on the call of Baloch National Front (BNF) against Frontier Corp checkposts and not releasing Baloch detained persons.

The Baloch National Front gave the call against the decision to establish checkposts at the hills of Makran division and non-release of prisoners. After the call, complete shutter-down strike was observed in Turbat, Mand, Baleda, Hoshab, Timp, Dasht, Goran and other areas.

Owing to this strike all the business centres remained closed. During the strike, strict security arrangements were ensured to avoid any unpleasant activity.

NA body seeks report on private jail in Sui:The National Assembly Standing Committee on Human Rights expressing its concern over the presence of 85 prisoners in a private Jail in Sui has sought report from IG Jail Balochistan in 10 days.

The committee met under the chair of Chairman Riaz Fatiyana on Thursday.

Member Committee Hamdan Bugti disclosed that there are 85 prisoners in a private Jail in Sui and handed the list of prisoners to the Committee. However Additional Home Secretary Balochistan expressed his complete ignorance over the issue.

Committee Chairman expressing grave concern over the languishing of 85 prisoners in a private Jail in Sui has asked IG Jail Balochistan to submit a report in this regard in 10 days.

Chairman Committee also recommended that use of mobile phones by prisoners should be banned and telephone booths should be made in jail and every prisoner should be given a card once a week to talk to his family and lawyer.

He also said that foreign prisoners in Pakistani jails should be provide access to their respective consulates and embassies.

The committee also approved resolution regarding funds and staff for provisional and federal ministries of human rights and said the shortage of staff should be overcome so that the human rights violations should be made possible. The committee also recommended the release of Syed Khan who is in Peshawar jail for last 2 years and sought report from the concerned staff in 10 days. The committee was told that Syed Kahn has completed his prisoner term and is still in jail. IG Jail NWFP Tanvir ul Haq told the committee that 3 more central jails are being constructed in the province and all the jails would be given the status of District Jail.
